Win a $3000 travel voucher for adding one Yahoo! contact
Win a $3000 travel voucher for adding one Yahoo! contact

dwergs says ( 20 Oct 2006 ):

In an effort to inform more people about the bridged gap between Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! Instant Messenger, Microsoft is holding a contest offering the grand prize winner enough money to visit a friend or relative abroad.

Of course, several rules apply to be eligible for the $3000 travel voucher:
- You must be 18 or older and live in the U.S.
- Answer a very simple True/False question and enter your name & Messenger address here before November 21, 2006 12:00 p.m. (PT)
- Add or keep at least ONE Yahoo! contact on your contact list (Windows Live Messenger is required).

wlm buddy msn display pictureOn (or about) November 28, a random drawing will be conducted and the selected winner's contact list will be reviewed by an administrator (eek!) under the supervision of an independent judging organization (phew!), so make sure you still have that Yahoo! buddy on your contact list.

>> Read the official rules (There's a typo in paragraph 3, I believe).

>> Enter the competition.

My BMF wallet for your Animated MSN Emoticons!
My BMF wallet for your Animated MSN Emoticons!

dwergs says ( 19 Oct 2006 ):

bad mother fucker walletThe past two animated emoticon contests where quite a succes so I decided to run another one. I ran out of MSN Buddy notepads, but this time the winner will receive, or should I say "earn", the famous Bad Mother Fucker Wallet as seen in Pulp Fiction*. So, the person who uploads the most (new) animated MSN emoticons into the proper animated categories wins. The deadline is October 31st and that's Halloween, so scary animated emoticons are more than welcome! The baddest mother f**ker will be announced on November 2nd.

grindhouse tarantino picturesNot in time for Halloween, but on a similar frightening tip, Quentin Tarantino's and Robert Rodriguez' upcoming 2-in-1 movie Grindhouse is expected to hit a theatre near you in April 2007. One segment, Planet Terror, will be a zombie film written and directed by Rodríguez. The other segment, Death Proof, will be a slasher film written and directed by Tarantino. And we just so happen to have a bunch of EXCLUSIVE Grindhouse MSN Display Pictures! Just take a look at them... doesn't the movie look bloody promising? :D

*It's simply impossible that you don't want a pimpin' BMF wallet... unless you already own one. I'll leave the winner with the choice to receive the wallet or a gift certificate of the same value.

Messenger payment system Bill no success
Messenger payment system Bill no success

dwergs says ( 19 Oct 2006 ):

sns bank billDutch SNS Bank is abandoning its Messenger-based payment system Bill as of January 2007.

Since March 2005, young SNS Bank customers using Messenger were able to transfer money to fellow customers as well as hundreds of e-shops through the integrated Bill tab. Unfortunately, with 10.000 users the 60k milestone by the end of 2006 hasn't been reached and the bank will stop offering the service. "Bill had everything to be succesful," a representative said, "but we overestimated the potential of MSN Messenger as a marketing platform".

Updated: Emoticon Speech Bubbles

dwergs says ( 18 Oct 2006 ):

We adjusted some bits and pieces of the Emoticon Speech Bubble generator and results should look better now. And if they don't, just adjust your input (eg. add some spaces) and retry. Don't forget to submit your favorite/famous jokes, quotes and dialogues via the form underneath your bubble, like t2t2 did with his SoaP bubble (see below). We'll make a "best of" selection next month.

Orange Messenger by Windows Live coming to France, Spain & UK
Orange Messenger by Windows Live coming to France, Spain & UK

dwergs says ( 18 Oct 2006 ):

orangeMicrosoft CEO Steve Ballmer together with Orange executives this morning announced an upcoming service called Orange Messenger by Windows Live. The service will allow Orange customers to exchange IMs with customers of other mobile networks as well as regular desktop users that use Windows Live Messenger.

orange messenger by windows liveThe link-up between Windows Live Messenger and Orange Messenger will first go live in France this December. In the course of next year, the service will be extended to the UK and Spain making it accessible to 135 million Orange customers and 240 Windows Live Messenger users in total.

Many mobile operators are still reluctant to embrace the IM technology out of fear of losing the massive revenue from text messaging, but now that Orange makes the move we'll soon see others convinced to jump into the field too.

Virtual love child (almost) ready to conquer the world
Virtual love child (almost) ready to conquer the world

dwergs says ( 17 Oct 2006 ):

ecckyWe told you before about Eccky, the Dutch virtual parenting game that runs on Messenger, but at the time we didn't have the 411 on the actual plans for an international roll out of the game. In a chat this afternoon with Yme Bosma from Media Republic, the company behind the baby-sim, we were given more details on little Eccky's "World Domination Plan"... after all, he's already sponsoring the Spyker F1 team.

A launch in the United Kingdom is foreseen for April 2007, followed by a U.S. launch in the months thereafter. After the English versions, a Chinese port of the game is planned for the end of next year. The U.K. launch will coincide with some great improvements in the multiplayer field (think Second Life and Habbo Hotel).

For a small fella, Eccky is definitely seeing things big!

Goodbye MSN Chat #3: This is the end
Goodbye MSN Chat #3: This is the end

dwergs says ( 16 Oct 2006 ):

Today all remaining MSN Chat rooms as well as the MSN Groups chat feature have been or will be closed down for good. The move comes two days earlier than we previously reported "because of a contractual conflict", tells us Messer Blade_Aussie.

"The new date takes into account time zone differences, as each server will be closed at a specific time on that date according the time and date of that particular region," he added.

Obviously, MSN suggests the use of Windows Live Messenger, Spaces and Mail for future communication purposes.

I want to get to know you, can I have your MSN?
I want to get to know you, can I have your MSN?

dwergs says ( 15 Oct 2006 ):

eBay and MySpace aren't the only web services getting their names dropped in pop music. Earlier this year a video for the song titled "One in the million" popped up on YouTube and even though it's "quite" hard to understand, the Thai band "Sniper" is obviously singing about an MSN Messenger-based relationship. More recently, another terribly cheesy track called "Mag ik je MSN?" (Dutch for "Can I have your MSN [address]?) became a huge Internet hit in The Netherlands after being plugged on a youth portal. The r&b duo Stiko Junior & Citton is singing about seeing some "sexy piccas" in a female member profile and then asking the girl for her Messenger address because "it's faster than leaving messages". It's so obvious that he's just interested in getting her to strip in front of her webcam, but that's just my opinion. If anyone knows any other (preferably better) songs mentioning Windows Live or MSN Messenger then drop me a note, ok?

>> Watch the video for Citton & Stikko Junior - Mag ik je MSN? (At a certain point in this video a girl squeezes out a zit for no particular reason. You've been warned).
