MSN Messenger 6.2 Delayed Until Monday
Zero1 says ( 23 Apr 2004 ):
|
Many of you may have seen MSN Messenger 6.2 posted on the main MSN Messenger site, then later removed and swapped for the old one.
An update to our story from yesterday on MSN adding four paid online games to its stable of subscription-based offerings: Looks like a last-minute glitch has resulted in Microsoft postponing the availability of its MSN Messenger 6.2 update. "The (new) games have already begun to roll out today on the 6.1 client, and many consumers will already have access tonight (Thursday evening)," an MSN spokeswoman said. "However, the 6.2 client is currently on hold." The new target for 6.2 is Monday.

This is only postponed until Monday, which means that no new features will be added, only a small bugfix. |

You can still download JnrzLoader for MSN Messenger 6.1.0211 here.
For those who still don't know: JnrzLoader is a little tool that will sign you in appearing offline and will load as many MSN Messenger instances as you want (MSN polygamy) without patching msnmsgr.exe

Messenger Plus! 2.54.75
Zero1 says ( 23 Apr 2004 ):
|
Patchou has responded quickly, with an update to Messenger Plus! for the newly released Messenger 6.2.
Patchou: Hello everyone,
the public version of Messenger Plus! has just been updated to 2.54.75 to support MSN Messenger 6.2. Everything is working fine except for the fact that emoticons cannot be used in conjunction with commands or special tags anymore (because of the fact that MSN Messenger 6.2 replaces emoticon codes by emoticon graphics while you type your messages). Of course, this problem will be solved in Messenger Plus! 3.
Please post replies to this thread if you encounter any problem with the latest version. It is very important that I am being kept informed of any problem, and thus, as soon as possible. Due to the special "emergency" situation, auto-update has already been enabled and I don't want to cause more problems that I'll solve by updating my users .
Download Messenger Plus! 2.54.75: here
Thank you, Patchou

MSN Messenger 6.2 Released
timothy says ( 22 Apr 2004 ):
|
Its here! Right now! Or quoting Zero1:
If you listen very carefully you can hear bill gates laughing at us...
Maybe Microsoft should learn from their mistakes for once in there business life. With an application targeted at the teen / young adult range you would think that the user feedback that they receive must be invaluable to them. Instead they seem to be ignoring & cutting out features that would attract people to the service.
In other words: 6.2 does not hold cool new features. Get it over here
The list of "new" things: - Allows you to install the MSN toolbar for internet explorer - Display mobile contacts in a group - Autocomplete emoticons ( can not be turned off ) - 4 new launch-site items you have to PAY for - 2 new API`s - NOT compatible with messenger plus yet |
Offline Messaging returns in the form of a bot
dwergs says ( 22 Apr 2004 ):
|
Now that the Automessenger service is closed there's still a way to enable offline messaging (as seen in Yahoo! Messenger and ICQ) without the need of Messenger Plus!. Through Maverick and Psyko's Offline Messenger you can send instant messages to an offline contact that will be queued for delivery until he or she signs in again. Needless to say, you'll also be able to receive delayed messages yourself. To enable offline messaging in MSN Messenger just add offmesshotmail.com to your list.

Daniel Winter updated his Display Picture Exporter to v1.0.19 (well, the previous version just wasn't supposed to be released... oops). This tool allows you to export your MSN Messenger display pictures, either individually or save all to a certain folder while retaining the original filenames. Supported formats are now PNG, BMP, GIF, JPG.
Please note that this software only works with MSN Messenger 6.1.0211 and with Windows 2000, XP or 2003.

Messenger Screen Name Logging Project
dwergs says ( 19 Apr 2004 ):
|
everyBuddy.ca is a digital art project. After witnessing how people change their instant messenger names throughout the week, the idea to capture and present these historical changes was born. The names people choose reflect their moods, culture and identity. Take a look at the website and judge for yourself.
The Messenger Screen Name Logging Project needs another 75 participants and you can take part by just adding the buddy. He's a robot who sits there and listens as you change your name. Every time you change your name he records it and puts it up on this website. Don't worry - your email address will never be shown, only your names!

24-7 Reporter project cancelled
dwergs says ( 19 Apr 2004 ):
|
A couple of days ago we announced 24-7 Reporter, a multi-channel concept by MSN featuring celebrity babe Katja Schuurman. Due to current health problems the former Dutch MTV VJ has called off the project for an unknown period. Those who subscribed to the newsletter on the official homepage will be contacted when things are to be picked up again. Take care, Katja!

Xbox Live going offline next Wednesday
dwergs says ( 18 Apr 2004 ):
|
Next Wednesday, at 6:01 am Pacific Daylight Time, Xbox Live will go offline. Not for good, though. Microsoft is merely taking the system down for 24 hours as part of the system-wide upgrade code-named "Tsunami." Once implemented, Tsunami will bring a bevy of new features to Xbox Live, including improved team dynamics, team customization features, new custom-competition options, and MSN Messenger integration.
Unfortunately, not all this will be available after Xbox Live comes back online and users download the obligatory update. Xbox Live Director of Programming Major Nelson explained "We are shipping these updates SOON... that is about as specific as the developers will let me get."
