 Preview: Improved Custom Names in Messenger Plus! 3.40
Preview: Improved Custom Names in Messenger Plus! 3.40

dwergs says ( 27 Nov 2004 ):

Nowadays Patchou is spending a lot of time working on Messenger Plus! 3.40 (aka "the MSN Messenger 7 compatible version!"). Today we can give you a sneak peek at what's been added in the Custom Names department, where YOU decide how contacts appear in your contact list.

- Special formatting options (bold, italic, color) can be set for each name and using the usual shortcuts (note that you can also simply leave the current name and color it the way you want);
- Automatically add the original name after the custom name (in grey);
- The new preferences panel allows to quickly change the names of every contact by pressing Enter in the name edit box.

 MSN Messenger having trouble speaking Korean
MSN Messenger having trouble speaking Korean

dwergs says ( 26 Nov 2004 ):

south korea flag msn display pictureMicrosoft's Korean unit said today some users have been unable to use Korean language fonts in MSN Messenger because of a software problem.

The glitch has left some customers unable to input Korean characters into instant messages for the past 10 days, Microsoft Korea said after first denying for several days that problems existed. The exact cause of the software problem has yet to be identified, but the U.S. headquarters has been notified and is trying to fix the problem.

A Microsoft Korea official said he does not know how many customers have been affected. This is the third time this year that MSN Messenger has suffered technical problems in South Korea.

 New in CustoMess: CookyBoy Emoticons
New in CustoMess: CookyBoy Emoticons

dwergs says ( 24 Nov 2004 ):

cookyboy emoticonsJust like with Mess.be's Freemoticons, one of the important goals of our CustoMess for MSN Messenger project is to fight back the exploitation of young graphic artists that has been going on ever since companies started to SELL MSN emoticons.

Take the CookyBoy Emoticons for example, which we've just added to CustoMess. They are an object of serious mistreatment as they are being redistributed as a pay-per-download package without the original creator, keagle13, ever seeing some sort of recompensation. Not that it was his intention to make money out of the emoticons he created: when asked he said he wanted to design emoticons "just for fun". With CustoMess for MSN Messenger we're bringing them back to the people as originally intended... and you can expect a lot more emoticon and display picture packs to be "liberated" ;)

This is far from the first case of what I call emoploitation. Other examples include the Cyclop emoticons by MNeMoNiCuZ and the Emoticon Extender Pack 2 by JPLyn which is still being illegally sold, infringing international copyright law. If you decide to pay for MSN Messenger content at all, just be careful what you buy. Thousands of MSN Emoticons and MSN Display Pictures are available for FREE at Mess.be, and the very best if available straight from CustoMess for MSN Messenger which even adds the images to your MSN Messenger account "automagically".

 JamesBond@hotmail.co.uk... going once, going twice
JamesBond@hotmail.co.uk... going once, going twice

dwergs says ( 21 Nov 2004 ):

MSN has pre-registered over 50 of the most desirable new email addresses (think: jamesbond@hotmail.co.uk, queen@hotmail.co.uk & superman@hotmail.co.uk) and donated them to the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children). These accounts will be auctioned off on eBay for charity.

Buyers can bid for specific hotmail.co.uk addresses from the following categories: film character icons, cultural names, most popular baby names, nick names, seasonal names and media names. With still 7 days left, JamesBond@hotmail.co.uk for instance is already going for £2,050.00 (about $3,800 US) at the time of writing.

>> Visit the Ebay Auction page.

[Reported by: Dan & Quoix]

NOTE: Microsoft claims 2.5 billion spam messages are blocked every day before they arrive in our Hotmail inboxes. I hope they're right, because e-mail spam spiders are probably enjoying all the online publicity these auctions are getting... Think about it :S

NOTE #2: With this action, Microsoft will probably inspire account squatters to do the same thing but with less generous intentions.

Oh and by the way, anyone interested in agent double o' behave's austinpower@hotmail.co.uk? Only £2000!

(just joking).
