An off topic post for people in belgium.
timothy says ( 10 May 2003 ):
|
This is a post orientated to all people in belgium and the southern parts of the netherlands.
Alvast bedankt, |

Praise Bill, the Holy List of Forbidden Words is no more
dwergs says ( 10 May 2003 ):

A few seconds ago daniel informed me "Microsoft" and "MSN" are now enabled in MSN nicknames too. To our knowledge there aren't any forbidden nickname words anymore. Contact us with full details if you're still being censored... |
Eckocomplex and Sigmsn
m_chibi says ( 10 May 2003 ):

Sigmsn is a very promising add-on for Windows Messenger AND MSN Messenger. Compatible with the 4.X and 5.x versions.
You can download the add-on and see the feature list of what it can do here.
If encountering problems with the setup, here are the install instructions.

MSN adds new anti-spam option to Hotmail
dwergs says ( 09 May 2003 ):
|
Two thumb rules in avoiding spam (in your Hotmail inbox) are:
1. Do not open suspicious mails. 2. Do not unsubscribe.
Opening (eg. included images, hence loading them from tracking servers) and unsubscribing is just the same as telling spammers your e-mail address is still being used. However, you can not always label a message spam or not without reading it. That's why MSN's Hotmail presents you with a new option (Options > Mail Display Settings > Display Internet Images) to block html images by default. The option is described as:
"To protect your e-mail address from people who send junk mail, you have the option to filter images from e-mail messages until you are sure they are not junk mail. Select whether you want to display images automatically, or review messages before choosing to display the images."
By enabling the protection, you get gray zones instead of pictures. They're not removed from the mail, but you have to manually open them first before they load. This sure is bad news for mailinglists, customer relationship and opt-in marketing. Of course (in an attempt to monopolise the e-mail market?) images sent by Microsoft seem to by-pass the filter. |
Who blocked you on MSN Messenger?

New MSN Poll: Messenger gossip folks!
dwergs says ( 07 May 2003 ):

Do you sometimes copy a piece of conversation from one chat window to another to gossip about that person through MSN Messenger? I know lots of us do, so vote here (always anonymously). |
The Mess-Chat is back !
timothy says ( 07 May 2003 ):
|
After a week it seems the chat is back up! So lets all join it again using your favorite IRC client, or just log-on the fast way with our web-chat !
Update: Chat seems to have difficulties again, please fasten seat-belts and hold on to the person seated next to you until we get in clearer sky. |
Spying on MSN Messenger chat conversations... it IS possible
dwergs says ( 07 May 2003 ):
|
SpyBoy, known from Elite Spyz, had a secret project going on lately in which he tried to eavesdrop on other people's Messenger conversations... And he just proved to me (and confessed to the victims) he succeeded. By my knowledge SpyBoy is the first real MSN Messenger spy ;) He will be revealing more details later and those who are up for it know where to find him. |

'Routine maintenance' being carried out on the .NET Messenger Service at the moment, so you may be unable to use the service for short periods of time. No need to start pulling you hair out, it should be back soon. ;)
Update: All systems go!

Antwerp dialect infects dutch MSN Messenger
dwergs says ( 07 May 2003 ):
|
Kenn modded the MSN Messenger language file to represent the typical Antwerp dialect, which is not exactly the most flaterring Dutch. This lang mod -that for example changes "Nieuwe E-mails" to "Nieve E-mailberichte"- is probably only funny to Messers from Antwerp, Belgium. But here it is anyway. |
Official Windows Messenger 5.0.0149 (BETA) Release
Johnny_Mac says ( 06 May 2003 ):
|
The official beta testing version of Windows Messenger 5 (not to be confused with MSN Messenger) has been released.
BetaPlace is offering registered members the chance to download the version, but you can find your own copy over at Neowin. Note that not much has changed since the leak of the beta back in March this year.
This does however signal that the development of Windows Messenger 5 is progressing and we're closing in on its final release.

And here's Messenger Plus 2.10.0035
dwergs says ( 06 May 2003 ):
|
It's raining Plus! updates this week. Seems like the 2.10.0034 patch released last week had a big bug that could potentially crash your Windows. This version fixes the problem and Patchou is "sincerely sorry for any trouble it may have caused you". Download Messenger Plus!. |
MSN Messenger helps businesses battle SARS
dwergs says ( 04 May 2003 ):
|
Everyone has heard of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS, which has killed about 400 people and infected thousands in at least 25 countries, mostly in China and Hong Kong. The global paranoia is threatening businesses worldwide. But the Instant Messaging technology has proven to be an excellent enterprise tool once again by solving the issue with travel restrictions.
Cam Lee, a product manager at Fremont, California-based Logitech International was set to fly to Taipei and Taiwan in May to give other managers and customers an idea of what new products are coming out for the fall. Instead she has used MSN Messenger, the instant messaging software, in tandem with Logitech-powered Webcam for MSN Messenger application.
"We usually (travel) quarterly to keep the team updated," she said, noting that the travel restrictions forced the company to change its plans. "Hopefully it will be over soon."
Spenser Johnson, product marketing director at Logitech, said: "The hard part for us is getting into stores and meeting customers. But we can do most of the work over video IM with no problem, and supplement that by sending the models (by mail) and sending lots of images."
