What are the so-called emoticon extenders or emoticon series?

Emoticon series or Emoticon extenders (also written like x-tenders) are 2, 3, 4 or 5 different emoticons that when you chain them together form a word, a sentence, an image, a flag, or in some cases a theoretically endless emoticon. Here's an example:

emoticon series

On the 1st line, you'll see a composition of five 19x19px emoticons that, when aligned correctly, form the message "mess.be pwnz yuo".

On the 2nd line you see a very very very very very long Super Mario Bros level, composed with only 5 emoticons. The possibilities in this case are unlimited.

Emoticon series can contain a maximum of 5 emoticons, because for now Microsoft has limited the use of different custom emoticons in one message to 5.

The emoticon series in the example above were created by Timothy and they can be downloaded from our emoticon packs section. Others can be found in our free MSN emoticons collection.

We love these things, so if you like to try and design your own then fire up your graphics program and start working in that max. 95x19 (WxH) workspace and submit them to Mess.be when you're satisfied. If you got a whole bunch in the same them, we might release them as a standalone pack! :)
