First of all, all lists are stored on the MSN servers and not on your computer (unlike ICQ). That way you can access your contact list from any place. Now, there are four different sorts of lists in MSN Messenger:
#1. The Forward List
This list is better known as your Contact list. You can add a maximum 150 different email addresses and displays the status and status changes of each one of them in real-time, except if they have added you to their Block list (see below).
Location: Just switch to your main MSN Messenger window.
#2. The Reverse List
An uneditable list maintained by the server containing all the people who've added you to their Contact list.
Location: Choose Options > Privacy (tab) and then click the View button behind "See who added you to their contact list".
#3. Allow List
The list of people who can always see your online status and get in contact with you, even if you haven't manually added them to your Contact list.
Location: Choose Options > Privacy (tab). It's the one on the left.
#4. Block List
The list of people you blocked from seeing your online status* and sending you messages.
Location: Choose Options > Privacy (tab). It's the one on the right.

Wat zijn al die verschilldende contactpersonen lijsten: forwart, reverse, allow en block
#1. De Forward-lijst
Deze lijst is beter bekent als je Contactpersonen Lijst. Je kan maximaal 150 verschillende emailadressen aan deze lijst toevoegen en hun statussen van elke krijgen, tenzij ze je aan hun blocklist hebben toegevoegt. (Lijst #4)

#2. De Reverse-Lijst
Een niet-veranderbare lijst, die bijgehouden word door de server, waarin iedereen staat die jou heeft toegevoegd aan hun Forward-Lijst.
>>> Locatie: Ga naar opties Options > Privacy (tab) en klik dan op de knop "Bekijken wie jou heeft toegevoegd hun contactlijst" (of iets wat er op lijkt).
#3. Allow-lijst
De lijst met personen die jouw status altijd kunnen zien en contact met je kunnen maken, zelfs als je ze niet aan je Forwart-lijst hebt toegevoegd

#4. Block List
De lijst met gebruikers die niet toegestaan zijn om je status* te zien, of om contact met je te maken.
