 Instant Mischief with MSN Messenger
Instant Mischief with MSN Messenger

Johnny_Mac says ( 26 Apr 2003 ):

Galaxy Radio, one of the UK's largest radio stations has teamed up with MSN Messenger to bring you 'Instant Mischief'. Participants get the chance to nominate a friend and provide Galaxy with some juicy gossip, however the gossip has to be something they wouldn't talk about on the phone or face-to-face, but would if they were using MSN Messenger.

The selected friend then is challenged to keep a random person talking for more then 3 minutes about the chosen topic. If they succeed, a top European clubbing holiday awaits them. Find out more here.

Note: Competition applies to the UK only.

Make your applications compatible with WM4 and WM5
Make your applications compatible with WM4 and WM5

timothy says ( 24 Apr 2003 ):

Soon with the launch of Windows Messenger 5 Developers will stumble upon a little change in the API. As soon as they will try to use the primary service statement their app will not function. (This part is used for getting fast user info and changing nicknames.) To get this part functioning in a way it also will be compatible with the 4.x versions I have written a small function that will sort this problem that is located here.

The End of the Holy List of Forbidden Words?
The End of the Holy List of Forbidden Words?

dwergs says ( 24 Apr 2003 ):

Remember when you weren't allowed to use 'remember' in your MSN Messenger nickname? Same thing with words like 'admin', 'webmaster' or almost any nasty four-letter-word. Well, it seems like those words aren't blocked from your nickname anymore. Only MSN and microsoft are still disallowed, but previously forbidden words are free to use now. This leaves us with the question whether this is a temporary thing or the end of MSN nickname censorship?

[Thanks to Dea for telling me GOLDMEMBER was allowed again :)]

Mess.be Partner site: Feestival.be

dwergs says ( 24 Apr 2003 ):

A new Mess.be partner site is again all about partying: feestival.be covers all Belgian summer festivals in 2003 (eg. Rock Werchter, Pukkelpop, Sfinks, Dour, Marktrock...) with the latest press releases, weather forecasts, picture & backstage reports, etc.
So it doesn't matter if you're a rock, pop, reggae, jazz or dance enthousiast, if you're planning to visit a music festival in Belgium there's only one place to start & end: feestival.be.

SmartbarXp BETA 4.5 Released

dwergs says ( 23 Apr 2003 ):

SmartBarXP is an appbar that runs down the side of your screen and provides you with easy access to its built in panes including an MP3 player, POP3 mail inbox, MSN Messenger contact list, MSN Messenger Hotmail add-in and a web search, as well as system performance information and a weather summary. The bar also has shortcuts to commonly used windows locations.

The BETA 4.5 version was designed on for Windows XP. It is unsupported on previous versions of Windows, however it does seem to load. 9x/NT/2000 users will receive an error on the installer that can be ignored, and then the bar should load as normal.

Download it directly here or visit its homepage for more info and screenshots.

 Mess.be supports International Earth Day
Mess.be supports International Earth Day

dwergs says ( 22 Apr 2003 ):

Today, 22nd of April, is International Earth Day. When was the last time you did something nice to Mother Earth? Answer: in a few seconds. Just go here and click the green "Save Our Rainforests" button. That's it!

A typical four square mile patch of rainforest contains up to 1,500 flowering plants, 750 species of trees, 125 mammal species, 400 species of birds, 100 species of reptiles, 60 species of amphibians, and 150 types of (MSN?) butterflies. Originally, 6 million square miles of tropical rainforest existed worldwide. As a result of deforestation, only 2.6 million square miles remain today. The race is on to save our rainforests and the incredible biodiversity they hold!

Oh, and spread the word to the peeps on your MSN!

Update for: Windows (XP) patch 811493 trouble
Update for: Windows (XP) patch 811493 trouble

Zero1 says ( 21 Apr 2003 ):

On an update to the previously posted problem with Windows (XP) patch 811493:

"Hi Everyone!

You may or may not have seen an issue where after installing Q811493 the machine runs extremely slow. What we have determined so far is that it is an issue with the anti-virus on there machines. If the customer is running EZ Trust they will need to disable the file monitoring service and if they are running Norton they will need to disable the auto protect service and the installation of Q811493 and this will return to system functionality to normal. Other Anti-virus programs that seem to cause this issue that we have heard of so far: EZ Anti-virus Realtime, MacAfee version 7 and Sophos.
