I had to cut back on the amount of images of soccer smileys published in our news, because it was slowing down the page-load on slower connections. But I moved the MSN Messenger emoticons remixed especially for Euro 2004 by messers, to a brand new Euro 2004 special.
New: The Blasphemer completed his remix project for The Netherlands by adding the Dutch colors to ALL 79 MSN Messenger emoticons!

One Billion Webcam Sessions on MSN Messenger
 dwergs says ( 24 Jun 2004 ):
|
"On MSN Messenger, we're averaging about 30 webcam sessions per second, every second of the year. This huge number of webcam sessions shows how many people are enriching their communication experience by being able to see their friends and family while they are instant messaging," said Junien Labrousse, Logitech senior vice president for the Video Business Unit.
Logitech, the world's leading manufacturer of webcams, began providing the video instant messaging feature for MSN Messenger in March 2003. Webcam for MSN Messenger allows people to add live, high-quality video (at up to 15 frames per second) to their MSN Messenger instant messages.

MSN to Boost Hotmail Storage Space
 dwergs says ( 23 Jun 2004 ):
|
In response to rival e-mail services, like Google & Yahoo!, enticing customers with high capacity storage, Microsoft's MSN unit will soon announce its intentions to follow suit, BetaNews has learned. Redmond executives have been mulling over how to respond to the storage frenzy, and are set to unveil a plan that will go into effect in July.
"We have been intentionally quiet over this period, as we formulated our plans, and waited to see the Yahoo response [...] before going public with our own," Blake Irving, corporate vice president of MSN's Communication Services group, told employees.
Microsoft hopes that by giving customers enough space, it can move the media focus away from storage as a key selling point and reduce the emerging threat posed by media darling Google.
"We are going to respond in a big way and will eliminate email storage as an issue for our users," said Irving.

And to imagine I bought a lousy 10 megabyte Hotmail storage for 30 euros last year :\
UPDATE: Timothy just passed me this extra info...
MSN plan to give free customers as much as 250megabyte of email space (10 mb attachment limit). MSN will also announce a plan to have a "plus" paid version of Hotmail for $19.95 a year which will include 2 gigabyte of email space (20 mb attachment limit). |

And the GMail invite goes to...
 dwergs says ( 22 Jun 2004 ):

A messed-up t-shirt and the famous "don't mess with..." credo both in one fanpic... pr0xy_nuk3r's submission was an instant favorite! In return for his damaged tee he will receive an exclusive invitation to open a personal Gmail account before the masses ;) Congratulations!
But this ain't over yet. I was pleasantly surprised by the generosity of a few Messers who donated their own Gmail invites to us for this compo! Thanks to Brandon (offering 2 invites), Davies aka spike (donating 3) and Luke Elliott (sharing 4 invites) we have NINE more invites to give away! If you haven't done so, send your Mess.be fanpic(s) as an attachment to dwergs gmail.com. Oh, and already submitted entries still make a fair chance.
