One, two, three, fits you to a tee!

dwergs says ( 10 Sep 2005 ):

Two days ago we practically commanded you to buy a ten dollar t-shirt from Threadless which would cause a $20 donation to the Red Cross to help hurricane Katrina victims. Dozens of Messers have done so and helped Threadless reach its $50,000 target (currently $64,470 and counting), but the tee-company decided to still donate every $10 received for the Regrowth: Katrina t-shirt directly to charity. So buy one today before they run out of stock again! You get a t-shirt, Katrina victims get help. Nobody loses!

Also at Threadless, there's an MSN Messenger-inspired design in the running for getting printed. It's called Stop right now! and shows six MSN Messenger toasts piled-up at the bottom-right corner of your t-shirt, just like they would on your desktop. If xenhook's design gets enough votes, it will become available from the Threadless shop. Vote 5 and hit "I'd buy it" right here!

Finally, another t-shirt company of which we are fond of, Splitreason, is deducting $5 off their best-selling t-shirts for the next three days. This includes the Bill Gates Monopoly parody and the Kill Bill Linux parody, highly popular among Messers. In the past we created MSN Display Pictures out of the Splitreason t-shirt designs, check them out here.

No week can go by without us handing out invites for Web2Messenger. Big thanks to the Messers at the bottom of this post for donating their invitations (the amount between brackets)! And may the most frequent Messers win!

Invite #1, Invite #2, Invite #3, etc.

UPDATE: It took less than 180 seconds for all the invites to find their way to a happy Messer. But don't worry, we got more for you later...

MSN Messenger gaining ground in mobile-focused Finland
MSN Messenger gaining ground in mobile-focused Finland

dwergs says ( 09 Sep 2005 ):

Päivää Finlanders! And welcome to Mess.be!

mobile phone msn messengerFinland, the home of mobile phone giant Nokia, is not all about text messaging (SMS). According to the research company 15/30 Research, nearly half of Finnish young people who use the Internet, use MSN Messenger daily, while e-mail is used by approximately one third. The Internet phone call service Skype is used by 2% of 15-24 year old Finns. Finnish young people forecast that the use of Messenger will increase, and the use of chat rooms and fixed-line telephones will decrease.

Mess.be only delivered 14000 pageviews to the people from Finland last month. We absolutely need some Finnish-speaking Messers to spread the word out there...

MSN Messenger Activity API to be released!
MSN Messenger Activity API to be released!

dwergs says ( 08 Sep 2005 ):

Like Overdo already posted on our forums, Microsoft will next week put the Activity API up for download. Developers will be able to use it to program their own Games and Activities for MSN Messenger, so you can expect a lot of growth and interesting stuff happening in this area soon.

Together with the release of the API, Microsoft is organizing a worldwide competition in which users can vote for the best homemade apps submitted by coders. Prizes for the creators of the winning apps include an Alienware Area 51 laptop with armored case, Aurora Desktops and Oakley Thump sun glasses with built in MP3 player. The competition will start on September 12th and will be open to individuals aged 18 years or older.

Mess.be is going to be quite involved in this competition, so expect more information on Monday!

Messenger Plus! 3.60 expected September 27th
Messenger Plus! 3.60 expected September 27th

dwergs says ( 08 Sep 2005 ):

Despite the recent MS AntiSpyware episode, Messenger Plus! is more popular than ever with its continuously increasing userbase and its 120,000 daily installations. Especially the emotion sounds are a big hit, constantly forcing Patchou to upgrade his servers. "By the end of the year, probably more than a billion sounds will have been exchanged on this service, all for free :)", he says.

Now the real topic of this news: Patchou has announced a release date for Messenger Plus! 3.60, namely Tuesday 27th of September. Expect (MSNM7.5) bug fixes, Custom Sounds improvements, and a couple of new features like the much awaited Tabbed Conversations and the file triggers. Moreover, Patchou will change the setup procedure "to make 200% sure nobody mistakes the Sponsor Agreement for something else".

Make sure you watch this space on September 27th if you want to be one of the first to play with Messenger Plus! 3.60.

Smart Logitech mouse delivers IM notifications
Smart Logitech mouse delivers IM notifications

dwergs says ( 06 Sep 2005 ):

This one's for the gadget freaks: "the first mouse to receive and process wireless communication from the PC". Logitech even goes as far as to call the stylish MX610 Laser Cordless Mouse "smart". Cordless, good looking and brains too? Hard to believe, but let's see...

- Battery life of up to three months and it tells us when its battery is low.

- The MX610 "knows" when the computer is on or off and it can save power by turning itself off when the PC is dormant.

- It senses wireless interference and changes channels to establish the most secure connection.

- It notifies us of received e-mail (blue light) or instant messages (orange light). "With one click of the illuminated button, the user opens the Outlook inbox or IM window to easily view the message". (Compatible with Windows Messenger, MSN Messenger & last -and yes: least ;)- Yahoo! Instant Messenger).

- With Logitech SetPoint software, people can customize their mouse so they are only notified when specific people send them e-mails or IMs.

- Lots more. Click here for the mouse's product page.

logitech mouse msn messengerThose e-mail and IM notifications remind me of the diNovo keyboard, another advanced Logitech product. But I can't decide what makes more sense: having them on a mouse or on a keyboard. I guess it depends on which one of the two you're using most of the time (for me, that's definitely a keyboard).

The Logitech MX610 Laser Cordless Mouse will be available in the U.S. and Europe beginning in October. The mouse has a suggested retail price of $59.99 in the U.S.

jessica biel msn display picturesAfter approving another +300 images submitted to our MSN Display Pictures and MSN Emoticons collections, we crossed the 25k boundary for the display pics. The emoticons are hobbling behind with +5000 but that's still impressive if you ask me. And remember that all our custom content is and will always be free!

Among the display pics I've added today, there were lots of Jessica Biel ones. Thanks for that Maku! And of course, thanks to all of you who ever contributed to our big collection.

MSN Messenger 7.5.0303 QFE Patch leaks to the web
MSN Messenger 7.5.0303 QFE Patch leaks to the web

dwergs says ( 04 Sep 2005 ):

Just before the beginning of the weekend, Jack Pearce hinted us about the release of build three o' three. The news about the new 7.5 version, which contains no big changes but a couple of bugfixes, has now been confirmed by several leaks and fellow Messers.

Instead of a 10mb download, the update comes in the form of a QFE or hotfix patch, the second one in the history of MSN Messenger releases. For now it has been released exclusively to official BETA testers and it WILL ONLY APPLY to an original, unmodified and English version of MSN Messenger 7.5.

A new Mess Patch for MSN Messenger 7.5.0303 is already available to all "early adopters".

>> Download the 303 QFE Patch (or: Mirror #1).
