THE HOLY LIST OF FORBIDDEN WORDS

...And Saint Microsoft spoke to all Messengers: "Thou shall not use any of the words below -nor any combination (prefixes/suffixes) with them- in your nickname!"
Err... yeah right! Have a look at the suggestions underneath the list to use them anyway or use the completely privacy-enabled and excellent online nickname changer by Daniel Winter.

**IMPORTANT UPDATE: On April 24th, 2003 Dea sent us an e-mail that "Goldmember" was allowed again. I tried "member" and it was indeed enabled. I tried "fuck www.mess.be" and the nickname filters let it through!! In fact, ALL of the words in the list below were allowed in your display name again, except for "MSN" and "Microsoft". These two were eventually allowed too somewhere before the 10th of May, 2003 (as reported by Daniel).

This means the information below is for pure archiving & amusement reasons only. It's a page out of Mess.be history that we can not simply throw into the trash bin because of all the work that was invested into it: entire dictionaries being entered as nicknames, me keeping track of who submitted what amount of words, etc... Nowadays you find the "Holy List" -as we jokingly called it- all over the web, but nobody actually credits those who so actively worked with us to compose it. Therefor, a HUGE final thanks to:

Other tricks on how to use them anyway:
1) Put a dot between the letters: eg. M.e.s.s.e.n.g.e.r
2) Put a space between the letters: eg. M e s s e n g e r
3) Put this hidden character ---> ­ <---- between the letters (thanks to Daniel), it wil disappear in the chat box (If you can't copy it, try holding down ALT and type 0173 to generate it)
4) You can use ALT+255 instead of the underscore in forbidden words with a _
5) Use the Nickname Construction Kit above to find alternatives for its letters: eg. M $$ NG R

(This next trick by xXx_AnthraX_xXx and DanBro used to work back in the good ol' days. Too bad Microsoft found out about it :S

1) Surf to http://www.passport.com and Sign In.
2) Then click "Edit the information in your .NET Passport" or "Edit My Profile".
3) Change your First name to whatever you want your name to be (for example "Microsoft employees are shitheads").
4) Check the box in front of "Share my first and last names."
5) Then click on "Update".
6) Sign Out from the passport site.
7) Delete your Nickname in Messenger (your hotmail address should automatically replace it).
8) Sign Out From Messenger and sign in again.)
