Windows Live Messenger is dead. Officially.
But you can still use it! Thanks to our friend Jonathan Kay who found a workaround to revive it.
Messenger Reviver 2 is a patch that allows you to keep using Windows Live Messenger without being forced to switch to Skype. We tested it today, and it works!
"Messenger Reviver 2 automatically installs, repairs and/or modifies Windows Live Messenger 2012, 2011, 2009, and 2008 as well as Windows Messenger to continue signing in despite being blocked by Microsoft."

SO THIS IS IT.
Starting April 8 2013, Microsoft will gradually pull the plug on Windows Live Messenger, formerly known as MSN Messenger.
As an alternative, Skype has been made fully compatible with your Messenger account. It will probably take a few months before all users are migrated.

In case you haven't heard, the Windows Live Messenger Wave 4 Beta is out there, so go grab it (unless you're on XP or an older version of Windows, because MSFT ditched support for those)!
It's got brand spanking new emoticons and all! Oh yeah, and tabbed chats, HD video chat, improved social networks integration, etc.
In other news, the Windows Live Messenger iPhone app is now available in the App Store. For free, of course.
