Minor Messenger Plus! Live Update
 dwergs says ( 22 Oct 2009 ):

Patchou has recently released a minor update to Messenger Plus! Live which is fully compatible with the latest Windows Live Messenger version (14.0.8089.726) and has been stripped from all references to the 2009 Plus! contest (congratulations to all winning clickers!). Under a new preference setting in the "Customize!" panel you can opt-out of any future Plus! contests and promotions.
The network hooking mechanism has been improved:
"For some people, this will improve how Messenger Plus! catches various network events (used for notifications, the event viewer, ...). For other people, this will solve a rare problem where Messenger crashes upon sign-in (Messenger Plus! will try to detect the faulty behaviour caused by buggy network software and will switch to an alternate hooking method automatically when Messenger is restarted)." The Messenger Plus! setup now resets Messenger's compatibility settings set in Windows Vista and above to increase speed. The plugin is now also compatible with BitDefender Total Security 2010.
"Note that as a result, keyboard shortcuts in Messenger Plus! windows (like pressing Tab to move to the next control) may stop working and the Messenger systray icon may not be replaced by Messenger Lock." Finally, some fixes to the "Enhance copy/paste" feature in chat windows and the sign-in notifications in Windows XP with Messenger 8.5 that were broken since September due to a protocol change.

BuddyFuse adds support for Google Talk, Twitter
 Inky says ( 07 Oct 2009 ):

BuddyFuse, a free plugin for Windows Live Messenger first released back in April has gone international! Although its initial release only provided seemless integration of Dutch social network site Hyves.nl, the new version now also offers support for Google Talk and Twitter.
Many users of Windows Live Messenger have been asking for support of other networks similar to the Yahoo! integrating added a few years ago. "The vast amount of chat and social networking services available today causes people to be 'online' on different services at different times. By adding interoperability [...] people can use an application they are already familiar with to stay in touch with all their friends, regardless of the network they are on.", says BuddyFuse cofounder Yousef El-Dardiry.
In the future the developers of BuddyFuse also plan to add support for AIM, ICQ and Facebook.

Ten thousands of Windows Live ID passwords disclosed

Phishing sites have been around for ages, and Hotmail and Messenger users have always been preferred and generally easy targets (just think of the hundreds of "MSN block checker" sites). But nobody seemed to realise that hackers were sharing large lists of compromised accounts publicly, until Neowin sounded the alarm.
Microsoft today officially commented on the worrying news:
"Over the weekend Microsoft learned that several thousand Windows Live Hotmail customers’ credentials were exposed on a third-party site due to a likely phishing scheme. Upon learning of the issue, we immediately requested that the credentials be removed and launched an investigation to determine the impact to customers. As part of that investigation, we determined that this was not a breach of internal Microsoft data and initiated our standard process of working to help customers regain control of their accounts. (...) we are taking measures to block access to all of the accounts that were exposed and have resources in place to help those users reclaim their accounts."
Microsoft advises everyone who believes their information was exposed on one of the lists to fill out this form to reclaim access to your account. In the meantime, everyone is advised to change their passwords and keep doing so regularly.

Couldn't resist sharing what we overheard at a VMA after-party in New York City attended by Kanye West: "Yo Facebook Chat, I'm really happy for you. I'm a let you finish, but Windows Live Messenger is one of the best instant messaging clients of all time. One of the best instant messaging clients OF ALL TIME!"
UPDATE: He's done it again!
