Logitech Introduces QuickCam Communicate
 SLim_Shady says ( 17 Sep 2004 ):

Logitech, the world's leading manufacturer of Web cameras, August 30 introduced QuickCam Communicate, a versatile and affordable webcam with a striking new look that gives it a lot of personality. QuickCam Communicate sports a charcoal black color, flexible flat-panel clip and a cool blue light that glows when in use. Its bold, yet smaller design combines Logitech's familiar, compact eyeball shape with sharp, angular lines that frame and draw attention to the inset lens.
QuickCam Communicate works with a rapidly growing number of video applications, allowing friends and family to add a more personal touch to their communication. It's simple to use with all the top video instant messaging applications, including MSN Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) and Yahoo! Instant Messenger.
QuickCam Communicate also makes it easy to take and send still photos and video clips to family and friends via e-mail. It features an integrated microphone that allows people to add audio to video clips or Instant Messaging applications. The package includes a flat-panel monitor clip, so the webcam can comfortably sit atop any monitor or notebook PC display.

MSN Messenger for Mac Petition - almost 9500 signatures
 dwergs says ( 14 Sep 2004 ):
| |
The MSN Messenger for Mac online petition has almost reached 9,500 signatures and is looking for a boost. The site itself has recently been updated with the addition of a feedback form which allows visitors to send their feedback and suggestions directly to the Microsoft's Wish Team, those suggestions are then passed on to the Product Development teams for assesment.
We're asking you to lend a hand, pass the petition link around and get as many signatures as possible. Even if you're not a Mac user, you have to admit everybody should have the opportunity to enjoy all the cool features of MSN Messenger 6.
UPDATE: OMEGA_RAZER reported that as of 15:45 BST on 14/09/2004 the number of signatures reached 9,500 :)

According to the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft and Polycom are set to announce a multiyear deal to integrate products for holding audio, video and web conferences. US firm Polycom is the number one maker of conferencing hardware. As a result, Windows Messenger users will have access to richer media collaboration experiences that will better unify people, applications, services and devices from the desktop to the conference room, inside and between organizations. Among other things, the new partnership is designed to make it possible for Windows Messenger users to hold conferences with larger numbers of users at the same time.

Messenger Plus! 3.20 with Usage Statistics a matter of days now
 dwergs says ( 12 Sep 2004 ):
| |
A new version of Messenger Plus! is due in about 8 days from now. Apart from many other new and improved features, its developer, Patchou, has announced that 3.20 will include anonymous usage tracking to get an idea which features are hot or not in order to know where to concentrate his programming efforts in the future.
Once a week, when Messenger Plus! usually checks for updates, anonymous statistics will be sent in a simple http request of less than 1 Kb to the server, containing true/false information such as QuickText used: yes (1) or no (0). For those who hear the "spyware bell" ringing, note that personal information like chat logs will not be touched at all.
The logging feature will be on by default but is easy to deactivate permanently in the first window of the preferences panel (General Options\Local Settings) for those who don't want to contribute in this particular way to the continued growth of the most popular MSN Messenger add-on ever.
UPDATE: No statistics are sent during the first week of use. That way you have plenty of time to discover the option and turn it off if you desire.
UPDATE #2: For multiple reasons, including the fact that there are more changes than anticipated, the new version of Messenger Plus! will be labeled 3.20 instead of 3.10.
