One hundred Web2Messenger invitations!
 dwergs says ( 07 Oct 2005 ):
|
Surely, we wouldn't let a week go by and not hand out a bundle of Web2Messenger invites, now would we? Don't thank me, thank the Messers listed at the end of this post!
And ben339 & ice_king have informed me that you can now put your MSN Display Picture in your Web2Messenger Status Image. You'll have to upload it manually, because the bot doesn't retrieve it automatically yet, but at least it's a step in the right direction.
1 2 3 ... More on Saturday! UPDATE: More (and in smaller batches) when the W2M bots are back online!

Voice Clips do work on Windows 2000
 dwergs says ( 06 Oct 2005 ):
|
As you've read in earlier news, Ahmad has been adjusting the XP-only setup for MSN Messenger 7.5 so that it will allow the latest version of Messenger to be installed on systems running Windows 2000. The only side-effect used to be a defected Voice Clip feature on this operating system.
But now there's some good news for the 4% of our visitors that use Win2K. Ahmad found out that you can easily enable Voice Clips again by running the Audio and Video Setup (from the Tools menu). Try it, it should work!

Magic Search: Win a Wink per minute... or a trip
 dwergs says ( 06 Oct 2005 ):
|
Today MSN France has launched a game called MSN Magic Search. It is open to French people only, but I already managed to score a free MeeWink (as Winks from MeeGos are called).
You can win an MSN Messenger Wink every minute or (if you live in France) even a trip to Egypt, Guadeloupe, Senegal or the Dominican Republic by searching for "magic words" at the right moment. Magic search queries include msn 7.5, msn messenger or voyage au soleil (a list is available). On the results page, click MAGIC SEARCH cliquez ici! - www.magicsearch.fr in the sponsor box and you will find out if you've won or not.
More than 30000 free Winks will be given away, with a possible extra 10k the game's closing date on October 31th.

Maxthon adds MSN Messenger support for links
 dwergs says ( 05 Oct 2005 ):
|
Last week Maxthon, the tabbed web browser with a huge following in Asia and at the same time my favorite, has added MSN Messenger support in its penultimate build 90. When you activate the option, any link you click in MSN Messenger (eg. in a conversation, or your Hotmail inbox) will fire up in Maxthon instead of Internet Explorer.
>> Maxthon: Free web browser download.
NOTE: A similar option can be enabled for any browser with the help of StuffPlug-NG 2, a Messenger Plus! plugin.

The people behind Spleak have just launched a competition where you get the chance to win fab prizes such as a Sony PSP, Bullguard software and iTunes gift certificates!
All you need to do is to visit this page and answer the daily questions. The questions are not that difficult, but you probably need to chat a bit with Spleak to get the answer.
If you are hooked on winning, you can increase you chances by sending invitations to your friends. For every friend that signs up, you get one extra ticket in the draw.
The competition runs throughout October and winners are drawn every Monday.

New Activity: Virtual Earth Shared Map
 dwergs says ( 03 Oct 2005 ):
|
Shree Madhavapeddi and Steve Gordon have built a new activity using the MSN Messenger Activity API. Virtual Earth Shared Map, as it is called, is available to MSN Messenger users from the U.S. and allows you to explore the world map together with their contacts.
"You will each be prompted to enter your location (city, postcode, landmark, street address...). You'll then each see a VE map appear. As one of you navigates, the changes are seen on both of your sessions. When you search for 'nightclubs' your friend sees the results on the map with you. You can add items to a shared scratch pad, turn on Aerial imagery, and explore the map together interactively.", it reads on the Virtual Earth blog.

MSN Messenger Service Difficulty
 zipp says ( 02 Oct 2005 ):
|
Some messers may be experiencing difficulty whilst trying to sign in to the MSN Messenger Service. At this point we are only able to speculate on the reasons behind this.
Personally, I have been having intermittent difficulty since the release of 7.5.0306. Maybe Microsoft are upgrading their system yet again to make way for new features to come?
However, on the official service status page it is reported ironically that everything is fine.
Remember you can discuss MSN Messenger topics with other messers in the Mess.be Official Forum!
>> Visit the Mess.be Forum!
Update: Service seems to have been restored to the majority of users.
Note: Please do not post about downtime on the forums. |
