 Microsoft says: hands off leaked MSN Messenger 6!

According to this article, Microsoft is now publicly urging users not to run leaked beta versions of its forthcoming MSN Messenger Version 6 instant messaging application because the software is not ready for consumer use (instability of the code and lack of complete information). The same article states that the final version of MSN Messenger 6 should be out a couple of months (!) at most after the public preview becomes available in the coming weeks. Eh, guys...  MSN Messenger 6 beta hits 2 million downloads

According to CNET News.com, a Microsoft memo penned by Blake Irving, vice president of MSN's communications division, stated 2 million copies of the "private" MSN 6 beta have already been downloaded. Calling it "totally addictive" and citing his 14-year-old sister-in-law as one surprise beta tester, Irving heralded the product's viral appeal: "We have seen unprecedented global consumer enthusiasm for this version," Irving wrote. A Microsoft representative declined to comment on the memo and would not offer a timeframe for version 6's public test release. I have checked with a few anonymous people who have been offering MSN Messenger 6 download mirrors and asked them to have a look at their server stats. My conclusion is 2 million downloads might even be an underestimation... Does Microsoft even need an additional "public" beta? I think the hype is pretty much the way they want it!  Microsoft prepping up the Launch-Site menu

It looks like Microsoft is preparing the Application Directory sites (the launch Site button in MSN 6) to get launched. They have recently removed the "coming soon" text from the menu. And at the moment the launch site is (partly) available in other languages like Dutch , German and Italian. Thanks to my little sis for showing me.

With Windows Messenger 5, Microsoft is targetting corporate Instant Messaging, so without the extras like display pictures and custom emoticons, it's growing more and more apart from its brother MSN Messenger 6. Brought to my attention by socks and david levi is another generic patch by doodle and created to work with all MSN Messenger 6 betas (tested on 0250, 0253 & 0256), whether already patched or not. It enables games & polygamy. It disables the User is typing message, ads & (BETA) from the title bar. Download this MSN 6 patch. Note: This might be the last patch of this sort I post, unless it surprises me ;)

As you can see I've redesigned the Mess with MSN Messenger layout again! (If you don't see anything 'new', press CONTROL + F5 to refresh your cache) In this third version of Mess.be, you can navigate through easy pulldown menu's at the top of the screen as well as through the usual menu to the left which has become more descriptive. I've divided all our content into FIVE big themes: - Information: read, learn & discover all there is to know about MSN Messenger. - Customization: mainly dedicated to MSN 6 personalisation through display pictures, custom emoticons, emoticon fonts & packs, backgrounds & skins. - Nicknames: various tools to create cool MSN Messenger names. - Download: collection of addons, bots, tools, polygamy and other patches. - Messaging: be creative in your instant messages with our emoticon pictures, ascii text art and funny away messages. Minor updates: - The online messers count now shows only the number of Messers that arrived at Mess.be within the last 60 seconds. - Meet our little messcotte! - The exit blog is going through some changes.  Mess.be MSN 6 Emoticons Competition: The Winners

Time to announce the winners of the Mess.be emoticon competition, don't you think? Out of over 500 submitted emoticons we had to choose only two, which was a very hard task because lots of them deserved the first place. Our final choice might be a bit biased by our B.A. Baracus fanatism, but here we go... 1st PLACE: - Mr. T by Shadz (Brett) from the United States wins a 30 US Dollar gift certificate @ Firebox.com. 2nd PLACE: - Neh-neh by Nielos from The Netherlands wins a 15 US Dollar gift certificate @ Firebox.com. Congratulations guys! These submissions nearly made it and deserve a honourable mention: - Alien by Arseni Khamzin from Canada. - Shocked by DeViL from Australia. - Bat-man by °ferg° from somewhere in the world...
